The Song

Wherever Would I Be – Cheap Trick

There are certain songs we hear throughout our lives that we immediately connect to a person or people in our lives. ‘Wherever Would I Be,’ is a song that does just that for me and then some. It means so much to me because of who in my mind it represents and because it perfectly summarises the way I feel about my mum, dad and sister.

Throughout this time in my life, there have been so many times where they have upheld me, have gotten me through the night and have given me a reason to go on. In the face of so much ugliness they have shone with such love, like beacons guiding me through the darkness.

When everything was falling apart, they were holding me together. They have been willing me to survive this, willing me to be okay. That kind of love is like a force that drives you to overcome the hardest of trials. They have been my fighting spirit when I had no fight left. They didn’t just watch me in my darkest despair, they were there in it with me.

The title of the song itself forces us to imagine for a moment a world where we didn’t have that precious person or persons in our lives and it ignites a feeling of pure appreciation, and gratitude for them.

There is a verse in ‘Wherever Would I Be’ that says, “When the dreams I dream all seem a million miles away, when I’m sure I’ll never win. When it’s looking like I’ve lost my faith, I just look at you baby and I’ve got reason to believe again.” So many times in our lives, our dreams can feel as though they have been ripped away and our faith in those dreams wanes but the people we love can ignite that hope again in us.

The world loves winners. Everyone is your friend when you’re winning but who is there when you lose? Sometimes we lose far more than we win. To have those special people in our lives that are routing for us through not only the good but the bad, is priceless. If you have someone like that in your life, you are a winner already.

I hope you enjoy this song. It’s very personal to me but I hope when you hear it, it reminds you of those precious people in your life and becomes personal to you too.

Mum, Dad, Sis – this is for you.

The song

The Lyrics

When my world is turning
When it’s turning upside down
When all I see is rain
When I think the night won’t end

I just think of you
And I can see the sun again

Wherever would I be without you, tell me
If I didn’t have you
Whatever would I do now, baby
Whatever would I be without you

I’d be nowhere, I’d be nowhere
When the dreams I dream
All seem a million miles away
When I’m sure, I’ll never win

When it’s looking like
I’ve left my faith
I just look at you baby
And I got reason to believe again

Wherever would I be without you, tell me
If I didn’t have you
Whatever would I do now, baby
Whatever would I be without you

Without you to love me
I’d just be wasting time
And goin’ out of my mind

Wherever would I be without you, tell me
If I didn’t have you
Whatever would I do now, baby
Whatever would I be without you

Wherever would I be without you, tell me
If I didn’t have you
Whatever would I do now, baby
Whatever would I be without you

Wherever would I be without you, tell me
If I didn’t have you
Whatever would I do now, baby
Whatever would I be without you

Your choices are just really touching. Like you said, those lyrics did touch the heart and bring memories of some beautiful people in life. ❤
    "I just think of you
And I can see the sun again"
This line caught my attention, for me they kind of capture the very essence of the song!

I just realized I never got back to you about your challenge.. I am not really good at doing these tags, and my husband is really the music guy, not me. When I am alone in the car, I listen to an audiobook. 🤣
